My Fashion Crush… Anna Dello Russo

September 10, 2010 By in Blog

Every time I see a picture of an incredible outfit or accessory that gets me excited about fashion, it’s usually on Anna Dello Russo.

Anna Dello Russo is editor at large and creative consultant for Vogue Japan and one of my all time favorite fashionistas.

What I love most about her is that no matter what she wears she adds her own twist and personality to each look. She always has a wow factor (or factors) which to me is a must in a perfectly styled outfit.  There’s always some form of sequins, texture or out of control accessory (her insane belt below)!  At times she tends to do them all at once, which works for her because her lifestyle calls for doing it big! I live for statements, sequins, and texture done well, and Ms. Anna Dello Russo is the perfect example of everything done right.

Even though none of us are editors at large for a major fashion magazine and not all of us live in major fashion forward cities, we can still make a statement on a smaller scale.

Incorporate 1 or 2 of these into any look:

1: An interesting detail in your garment: i.e. sequence, oversized shoulder, unique print. When you wear a solid color dress or shirt that has a unique detail to the shoulder or a lot of texture /draping it’s just as good as a print or incredible accessory.

2: Oversized necklace, bracelet, ring or earrings: Rule of thumb is to not wear them all at once! If all your peices came together you don’t want to be matchy-matchy and you don’t want to over due it. You have to keep in mind proportions! If you wear a statement necklace, don’t wear large or long earring. Instead, wear a stud. If you do wear statement earrings go ahead and pair it with a large ring or bracelet.

3: Show stopper shoes: Go for a shoe that has it’s own personality and pair it with solids, interesting fabrics or accessories that compliment them. You can NEVER go wrong with a fabulous shoe!

4: Red Lip: Red lipstick is a beauty product that can stand on it’s own as an “accessory”. Don’t be afraid of a nice red lip. You can wear ripped jeans with a solid shirt and a red lip will take your look from relaxed, to fashionable.

5: Incredible bag: Bags shouldn’t be an after thought. They can complete any look the same way a perfect pair of shoes can. Switch up your bags to coordinate with your outfits! You can find incredible vintage bags/clutches at any thrift or consignment store. When spending a couple bucks on a good looking bag with personality you have the liberty to have more then just one in your closet ;)

We may not be Anna Dello Russo but we can all pull inspiration from her style and make it our own. Happy styling ;)

Accessory Heaven

April 8, 2010 By in Blog

I LOVE anything that feels vintage. Give me diamonds, lace, brass and gold gold gold.

Luckily I live in good ol’ NYC where every day you can discover a new spot with the best finds… and since NY has had some amazing weather recently I’ve been able to come out of hibernation and enjoy the outdoor city life.

This past Saturday I came across a flea market I’ve been to this time last year and ended up wondering why I haven’t been back since this past weekend! There were a ton of amazing… amazingggg…. statement rings & necklaces along with these incredible bags with brass handles and out of control belts made from brass! If I could have bought everything I saw even just to be decor in my room… I would have.

The Price of Beauty

March 23, 2010 By in Blog

For the last two Monday nights I’ve tuned in to watch Jessica Simpsons new show “The Price of Beauty”. She alongside her two best friends travel the world to see how different cultures perceive beauty.

The topic of beauty is a sensitive topic for Jessica Simpson since she herself has been scrutinized for “gaining weight” when photos surfaced last year of her wearing unflattering jeans. She mentioned in interviews that all the attention to her weight left her feeling insecure and uncomfortable with herself thus birthing the documentary like show “The Price of Beauty”.

In this weeks episode a well known photographer in Paris was inspired by Jessicas journey and did a shoot not only photographing models but the average size French woman. He said a great statement about Jessica that can be translated universally when true for any woman…He said “Jessica is beautiful, but now she is even more beautiful because she accepts who she is.” The show seems to be healing for Jessica Simpson just as much as it is for us who watch at home.

I suggest everyone tunes in and joins Jessica Simpson on a journey to discover that beauty is far deeper then physical, it’s a mind set.

Each episode is short and sweet with only a half hour running time every

Busy Bee…

February 26, 2010 By in Blog

These past couple months have been busy busy! I moved to a new apartment (yay :) I’m taking a course before my bachelors program begins this fall and I’m interning with two different companies. Having spare time unfortunately isn’t on my to do list…oh well. ;)

The class I’m taking teaches how to use a program called U4ia which is used to design and place textile prints on fashion flats. It’s more technical then Adobe programs but just as exciting to use once you actually figure out how to use it. Our first project is to work on a children’s wear design so I’ve leashed out the simple graphics to bring something to life. :)

U4ia looks like an old school program and is actually really expensive but interestingly enough is still used in the industry. Here’s an idea what u4ia looks like.

As for internships, my first one is at Oscar de la Renta. I’m working in production which is part of the process of bringing designs to life. It involves a lot of traveling throughout the garment district here in the city whether rain or shine to find and pick up fabrics, hardware, threads and so on. There’s never one day that’s the same and thats just how I like it. ;) Shout out to my Oscar de la Renta girls, their so great to work with!

Here’s a look into Mr. de la Rentas Fall Ready-to-Wear collection shown earlier this month here at New York Fashion week:

My second internship is with a company called Holstee. They’re a great greattt company. Founded by two brothers a couple years ago who left their corporate jobs to do something they’re passionate about. They have products that are Eco friendly and extremely well made. Ten percent of their profits go to an organization called Kiva (which deals with micro lending www.kiva.org) and they are all about doing what they love while helping others do the same.

I’ll be posting a more in depth post about Holstee soon, but until then….. I strongly suggest you check them out! www.Holstee.com

With all that said, 2010 has commenced as a busy year and definitely started out on the right foot. I’m looking forward to what the rest of the year has to offer as I continue working hard to make it a fruitful year full of opportunity and growth!

Stay tuned ladies and gents! :)

Oscar de la Renta at your wedding…

January 26, 2010 By in Blog

In the spirit of Weddings, here’s Oscar de la Renta Bridal Trunk Show at Bergdorf Goodman this past January 16-18.

The youtube video is bad quality and doesn’t allow the detail of the dresses to be seen that well, so here’s a link to the actual video on their Facebook fan page. Enjoy, it’s beautiful!

Valentino…

July 2, 2009 By in Blog

Got to finally see Valentino:The Last Emperor. (http://www.valentinomovie.com/)

It’s a great documentary on an epic designer who designed for 45 years taking his passion from a dream to an Empire. It made me proud to say I interned with the company here in NYC :) I suggest anyone with an interest in Fashion go watch the film, it’s a must see.
