Christmas in July

July 30, 2010 By sarah in Blog

Recently I picked up some great pieces by going to some flea markets here in the city. Both the dresses were $15, yes… $15! I wasn’t able to try them on but it all worked out in the end, they fit just right :) And with New York being as hot and humid as it has been this summer, a few more summer dresses is exactly what I needed.

The first dress I loveeee, It’s perfect for a wedding I’m going to this August and who knew I would find a dress for $15 ;) The dress looks a lot shorter then it really is. It actually just made the cut for not being too short and still classy.

The tropical like dress I wasn’t crazy about at first since I’m not a fan of ALL bright bright colors, but the silhouette  is my favorite so I opted to take it home.

The earrings I found made it feel like Christmas in July. I love emerald green so finding the green swarovski crystal earrings made me one happy lady. The lion and crystal gold leaf earrings caught my eye and once I was told they were $25 a pair, I had to take them. One of a kind vintage pieces for that price are hard to come across. So Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas and  Happy New Year to me :)

My closet and jewelry box just got better ;)

My summer crush…

July 21, 2010 By sarah in Blog

Nice, tall, and old school with a modern twist…..that’s my new crush, the clog. Yes I said it, the clog. I want a pair asap.
They first reappeared in the Chanel Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear show and ever since they have begun to make their comeback.

I like a chunky heel, an affordable price and neutral color. Black, browns, and nude.
Forever 21, Zara and other affordable stores are carrying clogs and clog inspired shoes that are worth checking out!

Accessory Heaven

April 8, 2010 By sarah in Blog

I LOVE anything that feels vintage. Give me diamonds, lace, brass and gold gold gold.

Luckily I live in good ol’ NYC where every day you can discover a new spot with the best finds… and since NY has had some amazing weather recently I’ve been able to come out of hibernation and enjoy the outdoor city life.

This past Saturday I came across a flea market I’ve been to this time last year and ended up wondering why I haven’t been back since this past weekend! There were a ton of amazing… amazingggg…. statement rings & necklaces along with these incredible bags with brass handles and out of control belts made from brass! If I could have bought everything I saw even just to be decor in my room… I would have.

The Price of Beauty

March 23, 2010 By sarah in Blog

For the last two Monday nights I’ve tuned in to watch Jessica Simpsons new show “The Price of Beauty”. She alongside her two best friends travel the world to see how different cultures perceive beauty.

The topic of beauty is a sensitive topic for Jessica Simpson since she herself has been scrutinized for “gaining weight” when photos surfaced last year of her wearing unflattering jeans. She mentioned in interviews that all the attention to her weight left her feeling insecure and uncomfortable with herself thus birthing the documentary like show “The Price of Beauty”.

In this weeks episode a well known photographer in Paris was inspired by Jessicas journey and did a shoot not only photographing models but the average size French woman. He said a great statement about Jessica that can be translated universally when true for any woman…He said “Jessica is beautiful, but now she is even more beautiful because she accepts who she is.” The show seems to be healing for Jessica Simpson just as much as it is for us who watch at home.

I suggest everyone tunes in and joins Jessica Simpson on a journey to discover that beauty is far deeper then physical, it’s a mind set.

Each episode is short and sweet with only a half hour running time every

Busy Bee…

February 26, 2010 By sarah in Blog

These past couple months have been busy busy! I moved to a new apartment (yay :) I’m taking a course before my bachelors program begins this fall and I’m interning with two different companies. Having spare time unfortunately isn’t on my to do list…oh well. ;)

The class I’m taking teaches how to use a program called U4ia which is used to design and place textile prints on fashion flats. It’s more technical then Adobe programs but just as exciting to use once you actually figure out how to use it. Our first project is to work on a children’s wear design so I’ve leashed out the simple graphics to bring something to life. :)

U4ia looks like an old school program and is actually really expensive but interestingly enough is still used in the industry. Here’s an idea what u4ia looks like.

As for internships, my first one is at Oscar de la Renta. I’m working in production which is part of the process of bringing designs to life. It involves a lot of traveling throughout the garment district here in the city whether rain or shine to find and pick up fabrics, hardware, threads and so on. There’s never one day that’s the same and thats just how I like it. ;) Shout out to my Oscar de la Renta girls, their so great to work with!

Here’s a look into Mr. de la Rentas Fall Ready-to-Wear collection shown earlier this month here at New York Fashion week:

My second internship is with a company called Holstee. They’re a great greattt company. Founded by two brothers a couple years ago who left their corporate jobs to do something they’re passionate about. They have products that are Eco friendly and extremely well made. Ten percent of their profits go to an organization called Kiva (which deals with micro lending www.kiva.org) and they are all about doing what they love while helping others do the same.

I’ll be posting a more in depth post about Holstee soon, but until then….. I strongly suggest you check them out! www.Holstee.com

With all that said, 2010 has commenced as a busy year and definitely started out on the right foot. I’m looking forward to what the rest of the year has to offer as I continue working hard to make it a fruitful year full of opportunity and growth!

Stay tuned ladies and gents! :)

Oscar de la Renta at your wedding…

January 26, 2010 By sarah in Blog

In the spirit of Weddings, here’s Oscar de la Renta Bridal Trunk Show at Bergdorf Goodman this past January 16-18.

The youtube video is bad quality and doesn’t allow the detail of the dresses to be seen that well, so here’s a link to the actual video on their Facebook fan page. Enjoy, it’s beautiful!

From the Inside Out…

January 20, 2010 By sarah in Blog

Recently Heidi Montage who got her fame from being on the MTV reality show “The Hills”, did 10 hours of plastic surgery with around 10 different procedures done simultaneously. When I heard this and saw the pictures It broke my heart. This 23 year old girl now looks more then a decade older and all to satisfy this false image she thinks she has to portray because she’s a “celebrity”. Even with all those surgeries she’s not content, she still wants more work. I wish her husband was a real man and let her know she was beautiful the way she was.

Here’s a clip from her Good Morning America interview and some before and after images.

As a young woman I know there are pressures to look our best. The media tells us what is beautiful and from there we mold a version of ourselves that we wish we were. We wish we had blue eyes, longer hair, more height, less hips and bigger lips. The cliche thing to say is “Beauty is from the inside out”. But, as cliche as that statement is, it’s truthful. I too have wished to be things I’m not, and end up having to remind myself that I need to love who I am when I look in the mirror knowing that my beauty isn’t measured by how long my hair is, how much weight I gain or loose, or even by the clothes I wear. It’s measured by the woman I am, how I love, how I treat others and by the person I am everyday pursuing to be, this is what deems me beautiful.

Yes, as men and women, we should take care of ourselves by exercising and eating healthy but we need to know that at the end of the day Beauty is fleeting, it doesn’t last forever. What will deem us a great man or woman isn’t dependent on our looks but rather our character. So lets stop being so hard on ourselves and others and learn to see our beauty from the inside out.

Dear Men,

You are visual, very visual, but you should know that you shouldn’t choose a woman to spend the rest of your life with based on how small her waist is, how good she looks in a bathing suit or by the color of her eyes. You should desire a woman who is giving, puts others before herself, loves unconditionally, is a hard worker, is clothed with strength and dignity, is honest and speaks with wisdom. You want a woman you can spend the rest of your life with talking to and enjoying moments with and not just looking at. And yes, there needs to be attraction but don’t place your standards so high that you miss out on a great woman because you wanted someone who looked like she walked out of a magazine. Lastly, remind the women in your life how beautiful they are not just because of their physical assets but their inner attributes.

Dear Women,

Believe you are beautiful. Love who you are, be comfortable in your own skin and strive to be a better version of yourself by working on who you are instead of just how you look. Media has skewed the perception of beauty causing us to believe we are not beautiful. If we were all as flawless as the images and magazines portray women to be, Photoshop and plastic surgery wouldn’t exist. Believing we are beautiful isn’t obtained by altering ourselves physically, it’s done by believing it mentally. So lets believe it, lets change the way we think about ourselves and beauty. We are Beautiful.
