ESPYS

July 16, 2010 By in Journal

Recently the ESPYS came on and oddly enough I kept the channel to ESPN. Lately I’ve had a larger interest in sports then I EVER have in the past. I don’t know much about sports but they, not just basketball, have my attention :)

Now for my first time watching the ESPYS they turned out to be one of the best awards shows I’ve seen. They ended up not just being about entertainment, but a few hours of honoring people not just for their talent, but their character.

The most inspiring award went to the family of Coach Ed Thomas. Ed Thomas coached the students of Aplington-Parkersburg high school for 36 years and was known as an inspiration and great leader. He lived by by the motto “Faith, Family and Football”, and not only helped mold the students into football players but great men.

Below is a documentary like video they showed at the ESPYS about Coach Ed Thomas and his story.

What a powerful story. A family looses their father and husband and instead of being bitter they show love and forgiveness towards another family whose son killed their loved one.

Below is a clip of the Thomas family accepting the Arthur Ashe Courage Award for having the courage to forgive. Aaron Thomas powerfully accepts the award and confirms that the Thomas family is a great inspiration and true testament of living in love and by example.
