Summer Nights
October 27, 2009 By sarah in BlogThis summer there was a ridiculous amount of rain in the city thus causing me to stay in and get in touch with my creative side. I can’t wait to make more, playing “arts and crafts” is always fun :)
Both black and white printed photos I painted and placed on a canvas and notebook.

Serizawa: Master of Japanese Textile Design
October 25, 2009 By sarah in BlogI recently went to the Japanese Society here in New York and saw the exhibition on Living National Treasure Serizawa Keisuke (1895–1984) He used stencil-dyeing techniques to create irresistible works of art that range from screens and kimonos to book covers and magazine designs.
I learned that he continued to do all his work by hand and stencils during a time when everything began to become industrialized. He stayed true to his craftsmanship creating amazing work using ridiculous color combinations and unique imagery.
After seeing all his work I left feeling more inspired to get back in my art mode and create. I use to spend whole days sitting in front art supplies, cutting out paper and creating textured work. Lately I haven’t made time to do much art and now more then ever I want to get back in the zone. I hope whatever I do with my creativity inspires others the way this “Textile Master” has done for me.
Thank you Mr. Serizawa : )

The Power of Compassion…
October 24, 2009 By sarah in JournalBelow is a video from Good Morning America that covers an incredible story of a 23 year old robber who surrenders and prays with a cash clerk whom he was robbing. He admits to her he wont hurt her but is desperate to get money to support his family since he’s been out of a job for over a year.
The Clerks name is Angela and both her, Greg, his mother, fiance and daughter (not son like the video above stated) appeared on Oprah this past friday (Oct. 19th) They were all at the studio in Chicago while Greg was skyped in from jail. Here’s a link to the part of the interview when he apologized officially to Angela.
I teared up the wholeee time the interview was aired. Here was a young man who struggled with suicide because he was depressed and struggled to take care of his family. My heart hurt for him.
He was respectful and truly sorry. He made a wrong choice and humbled himself in front of the world by apologizing for all his wrong actions and asking for forgiveness. He stated he always believed in God and Christ but never lived that lifestyle and up until that point he was always in control and took advantage of all he had. He believes it was God who used the clerk to speak to him with such compassion, something he had never felt from someone else, not even his mother.
This situation is evidence of how POWERFUL it is to love one another. All this boy needed was someone to listen, care and believe he can be great.
If we lack love we have nothing at all.
All he needed was Love.
Let’s not forget to acknowledge the greatness we see in others and encourage them to reach for it. But most of all, let’s live in love.

Watch your thoughts, they become your words.
Watch your words, they become your actions.
Watch your actions, they become your habits.
Watch your habits, they become your character.

I Have a Boyfriend…
October 21, 2009 By sarah in BlogThe Boyfriend jean, I’m officially digging them.
The good news is, I just got my first pair :)
The bad news is, I have to patiently wait for warmer weather so I can wear them the way I’d like. (Paired with a great feminine flat/heel and boyish shirt and leather jacket. Hence photo)
So till then, my “boyfriend” will have to wait for spring in NYC to be seen ;)

It’s Never too Early to do What We Love…
October 12, 2009 By sarah in BlogTavi Gevinson is only 13 years old and this past September was at the Spring 2010 Fashion Week in New York City…sitting front row!
This young Chicago native started a fashion blog “Style Rookie” and after only 8 months of having it up got noticed by some influential people in the fashion industry and was invited to the shows. She skipped school to live every grown woman’s dream. She fit right in at the shows despite the fact that in her blog she describes herself as a “Tiny 13 year old dork that sits inside all day wearing awkward jackets and pretty hats”. Apparently, the fashion world wouldn’t have her any other way. :) Remember her name, I’m sure we’ll hear about her again.
